Campaign Themes and Events to generate fun!

United Way 007

Go in hot pursuit of a cool million!  Create a detective theme with posters depicting social problems that need to be solved.  Clues are given to employees in the form of riddles.  Each clue has a fact about United Way and its agencies and partners.

Carnival Fun

This idea is perfect for a work environment where employees are unable to leave their work areas except during breaks.  Create a carnival atmosphere by having a designated room (such as a break room) be a game area.  Have information available about United Way.  Food makes this activity more fun.

United Way Idol

Model your campaign after the popular TV show.  Search for your own starts within your company by holding a karaoke contest, talent show or best United Way supporter contest!

Puppy Love  Pet Look-A-Like Contest

Ever hear that a lot of pets look like their owners and vice-versa?  Test this theory by having employees try their luck at matching a pet picture to its correct owner.  Award a prize to the contestant with the most right answers and maybe provide gift certificates to owners who look the most like their pets.

Paving the Way for a Better Community

Use road construction equipment, hard hats, cones, road signs, etc. to decorate the office.  Give road maps to employees for them to find direction in their charitable giving.  Demonstrate the roadblocks some people face that can benefit from United Way agencies.  Create road signs featuring real statistics from our community (Data is available from the United Way).  Celebrate when you reach your final destination.

Survivor

Divide the company into two teams and have them battle it out to see who can raise more funds. Play games like office immunity challenges and eat gummy worms.  Learn what it’s like to live without necessities, as some who use the United Way agencies do. Quiz employees on what it’s really like to survive in Whitley County when you’re in need.  (Example:  You have $100 for bills.  Do you buy groceries or pay the heating bill?)

Fall Fest

Create a festival atmosphere with hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy.  Ask volunteers to dress up as clowns and pass out balloons.  Arrange for a magician or juggler and have local agencies set up information tables.  In addition, organize games like a ring toss, fishpond, pie throw and dunk tank.

Wild West

Hang WANTED poster around the building with pictures of employees.  Set up a saloon and offer root beer floats and shots of root beer.

Hometown Heroes

Promote the United Way campaign by using the concept of being a hero in your community through donating to United Way.  Use a movie theme in conjunction with this concept of being a “hero”.  Give away movie related items; decorate the office with movie posters.

Teaming Up for our Community

Use a sports theme to unify your campaign.  Kick it off with a tailgating party in the parking lot.  Employees wear their favorite team jersey and contributors win “most valuable player” awards.

United We Can Make a Difference

Decorate the office with red, white and blue.  Have members of management dress as Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty.  Tie a red, white or blue balloon to the desk of all donors as a visible sign of their support.

Beach Bash

Use a cruise theme to promote the United Way campaign.  Have an outdoor tent to host a luau, encourage employees to sport cruise wear and have the CEO wear a captain’s hat.  For adventurous companies, ask management to lip-sync to calypso music.

Close Encounters of the Caring Kind

Create an alien theme.  Decorate the office with employee’s names on moons and stars.  Name each department after a different planet.  Have a costume contest for the most convincing alien.  Award the department that has the most enthusiasm with an “Out of This World Caring” award.

You Gotta Have Heart

A paper heat is hung on a wall when an employee turns in a pledge form.  During this campaign, pass out heart-shaped balloons and candy hearts to employees.

Share your Strength, Shape our Future

Focus the campaign around different shapes.  Distribute cans of Play-doh and other items you can shape.  Challenge management or employees to activities that reveal their strength.

Building a Better Tomorrow

Use Legos to build a house or structure in a central office space.  Each employee that contributes gets a Lego to add to the project.  Decorate the office with building materials and serve treats out of construction hats.

Heroes Among Us

Create a hero theme by promoting either heroes in your company who have volunteered within your community or have some fun with this theme, and make up your own comic book superheroes.  Such as, Magnificent Mentor Man, Captain Care and Fabulous Philanthropy Gal

Take a Walk on The Wild Side

Create a true office jungle with streamers and inflatable animals.  Throughout the week, pass out animal crackers and bananas for jungle breaks.  Divide your office into animal teams and create some friendly competition with scavenger hunts and animal calling contests.

“Music Mania!”

Have a decoration/costume contest, give a musical trivia test, play musical chairs, have a karaoke contest, play music CD’s at meetings.  Invite agencies to be judges.

50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s

Wear decade attire; have a sock-hop, disco, or twist contest; have a lunch with hot dogs and chocolate malts; dress in fluorescent colors.  Have fun!
